Quarterback

How many great quarterbacks can you name in 30 seconds? Steve Young, Joe Montana, John Elway, etc.; not to mention playing legends like Tom Brady and Russel Wilson. The reason I ask is, when you're handing over the pigskin, or your wallet, you need confidence on who's taking control. So, when I sat down at Quarterback, the lack of MVP status on this slot left me a little offsides; however, this was all pre-game, the referee had yet to flip the coin.

Genii set out what they set out to do; Quarterback is a simple football slot machine. They aren't affiliated with the NFL, and they don't make any poor attempts at replicating their logos or other trademarks. In reality, the symbols in the game remind me of how you would decorate a pre-teen birthday party.

I brought up great quarterbacks as this slot machine should rank high on the all-time greats list. It's doesn't provide a cinematic experience, doesn't provide thrills of a half-time show, but certainly delivers on good old performance. The concept is simple and calm, dynamic quick and precise. Animations are brief, straightforward, and can easily be skipped. The sound is typical that of transition music, and wins often times accompanied by quirky one-liners.

What really drove this game down the field were the standard symbol wins. Playing left-to-right, often times collecting 3X, 5X, and 10X wins. Abundant wilds left the playthrough between bonus rounds as entertaining as a favorable pick six. The auto-spin feature was interesting in that it only let you select up to 100 spins, however, those spins were complemented with high limits.

The game had 3 bonus rounds in which the progressive was available as the jackpot win. First bonus consisted of 3 or more foam finger symbols that appear anywhere on the reels. After a brief animation you select a finger for a prize. After a few triggers, the fingers generally revealed a 3X-30X win.

Second bonus consisted of free spin symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5. 10 spins are rewarded and retriggers are possible. This bonus was absolutely phenomenal. The game itself didn't advertise increased wilds, but during the bonus there were no shortage of symbols. This is the type of bonus you get once a night (If you know, you know).

Last bonus consisted of a bonus symbol appearing on the 1st and last reels. Upon trigger, your greeted with a screen that makes available to choose from three options: Pick a Ball, Run the Yards, or Field Goal. Pick a ball you simply win an amount, whereas run the ball and field goal offer comical animations of the like and you win a random prize afterwards.
