When was the last time you watched the Sandlot? It's been years on my end. That's alright though, Baseball Frenzy by Dream Tech does a good job satisfying that summer time excitement. This is one of those rare games that can provide that ambience most games can't provide. As that may be specific to each individual; I'm OK with that.
Baseball Frenzy is going to be tough to beat when it comes to a classic. Not as electrifying as the midsummer classic (MLB All-Star Game), but will knock you out of the park nonetheless. Overall gameplay is matched with great replay value. Animations are spot on, the audio is pleasant, and the cascading reels provide entertainment for hours on end. I'm not sure I would place this slot in the majors, but definitely has a spot in the beer leagues.
This game has a unique feature that I'm not sure I love or hate. Behind the reels is a baseball game going on. The pitcher is off to the right; batter to the left. As you hit the spin button, the pitcher pitches the ball and the batter either makes contact or misses. The key factor is if the hitter makes contact, the spin will result in a win. This happens a few seconds before the actual game displays the line win; sort of a win indicator if you will. Which may or may not be a spoiler to some.
The bonus round consists of hitting 3 scatter symbols. Upon trigger, you win 6 free spins and then it brings you to a pick screen with 10 boxes and 5 pick selections. These selections reveal additional free games, reel extensions, and wild reels. This is a bonus that I could see being very lucrative; just depends on how the cascades fall into place.
Overall, this machine throws a perfect game in regards to a baseball-themed slot machine; without having to rely on the appeal of Major League Baseball. Its cartoonish feel is welcoming and the little details, such as the pitcher/batter animation in the background, can certainly be that little touch that can separate an OK slot machine; from one in the front of the high-limit area. Just make sure you have an open spot in your rotation, as this will certainly play near the top.
